Winold Reiss was a German-born American artist and graphic designer. He was born in Karlsruhe, Germany. In 1913 he immigrated to the United States, and spent time in Harlem before moving West to paint Native Americans.

Ethel Waters  (October 31, 1896 – September 1, 1977) was an American singer and actress.

The WHITES ONLY Cotton Club featured Black entertainers but was closed to Black audiences. The Savoy was revolutionary in that it was managed and staffed by Black personnel, open to and attended by all colors.

Many musicians migrated to Harlem between 1920 and 1938 to take part in the Black Awakening that typified the Harlem Renaissance.

A’Lelia Walker was the daughter of Lelia Walker of beauty products for Black women, a billionaire 180 times over in today’s money. A’Lelia hosted the famous salons that were attended by the artists and thinkers of the Harlem Renaissance. CLICK ON PHOTO FOR MORE INFO.
